Artist's Statement:

This exhibition introduces a series of recent works in a new medium that I have developed that incorporates removable, wearable, enameled metal pieces into my paintings. 

The paintings are interactive and designed to exist in two states: with and without their metal companions. The wearable necklaces and earrings exist in two states as well: on the wall and on the body. The owner of the piece can choose to activate the artwork by removing and wearing the jewelry if they wish–or they may choose to keep the connection undisturbed.

“Cold Connection” is a metalsmithing term that refers to any technique that connects two or more parts together without the use of heat, while “Hard Edge” is a fine art term for abstract paintings in which areas of color collide abruptly. With this body of work, I hope to explore and expand the connections and the edges between art and craft, between paint and metal and between art and the body.

The languages of color, geometry and modernism have always inspired both my paintings and my jewelry, and I combine these to generate the vocabulary for this new, integrated medium.
